Technics · £1,599

A black direct-drive turntable from the Technics G range.

Worth being NRY provisional

The GR2 adds new digital motor-drive processing to the 1210, which is the part of a direct drive deck that decides whether it holds pitch under load. This is where the Technics range stops being about reliability and starts being about measurable precision. £1,599 is a lot, and it is the point at which the money starts going into the motor rather than the badge.

For
Someone who has outgrown a belt drive and wants the engineering rather than the look.
Not for
Anyone who cannot hear the difference between this and the SL-1500C, which is most people.

Marked provisional: the justification rests on 1 source(s); two independent ones is the bar. We publish it anyway and say so, rather than waiting for evidence that may never arrive.
