55OLED908
Philips · £1,499
Nice, but provisional
A very good OLED with Philips' Ambilight, and one specific thing you must know before buying: Richer Sounds state plainly that this model carries no Freeview Play apps, which in the UK means no iPlayer, ITVX or Channel 4 through the built-in platform. You would need a streaming stick to put them back, and at £1,499 being told to add a £40 box is a real deduction rather than a quibble.
- For
- Someone who already streams through a console or a box and wants Ambilight and the panel.
- Not for
- Anyone expecting to watch UK catch-up television on the set itself.
What we checked
- The model ships without Freeview Play and Digital UK apps. Richer Sounds
Marked provisional: the justification rests on 1 source(s); two independent ones is the bar. We publish it anyway and say so, rather than waiting for evidence that may never arrive.
