PO0649 Photochromic
Persol · £287

Worth being NRY provisional
£287 for the 649, which is the frame Persol built for Turin tram drivers in 1957 and has not really changed since. This one has photochromic lenses, so it darkens outdoors and clears indoors, which removes the main irritation of prescription-free sunglasses. A pilot shape in acetate, and the closest thing in this category to a classic.
- For
- Someone who wants a frame with a history and will keep it long enough to matter.
- Not for
- Anyone who wants a fixed tint: photochromic lenses are never quite as dark in a car.
What we checked
- A pilot shape in durable acetate with photochromic lenses. David Clulow
Marked provisional: the justification rests on 1 source(s); two independent ones is the bar. We publish it anyway and say so, rather than waiting for evidence that may never arrive.
